HYCAP

The goal of HYCAP is to introduce GO-START to the market, a supercapacitor module that can drastically reduce the use of lead-acid batteries in medium- and heavy-duty trucks. While substantially reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, GO-START ensures the avoidance of dead-starts and helps saving in downtime, idling and maintenance costs.

70% of the goods delivered in the EU are transported by trucks, whose standard battery solution are lead-acid batteries. However, these present several issues: they must be replaced every 3 to 18 months, require idling to avoid engine dead start after the resting periods of the driver and are loaded with lead. The World Health Organisation estimated that lead causes 50 B€ of estimated economic costs and approximately half a million deaths by intoxication per year. For that reason, the EU has banned its use for most applications, with the exemption of batteries. GO-START can directly replace a lead-acid battery in a truck with a very simple installation, as opposed to our competitors, who require custom fixing and specialized personnel; reduces up to 8 k€ in operational costs and 14 ton of carbon emissions per year and ensures that the driver will never suffer a battery-related dead-start again.
